Because we love to talk behind each others backs
So today Mashable confirmed that women are the rulers of the social media space. http://mashable.com/2009/10/03/women-rule-the-social-web/ Having done quite a lot of thinking on this topic this year it came as no great surprise to me to see this.  I also loved the fact that digg was the only anomaly.   That made a lot of sense which I will explain. For years people have been trying to get the...

Simplicity
This week I’m thinking about how it is weird how being really clever now is all about being really simple.   And how I kinda like that.  Gone are the days of hiding behind complex language  - now it’s all about learning a whole load of stuff– just so eventually you can explain what things are really simply. Being able to take all the noise that people create about things and cut right down to its...

Does knowing the science spoil the fun?
When I was at uni I studied Theatre.  Which was great, we found out lots of the science behind performance - how to use semiotics of language semantics of action.  I thought it was all really fascinating - until I found myself having to apply it to something I truly loved. Pantomime - for my Aussie friends, is one of the best fun theatre experiences you can ever go to - they happen at Xmas time...

I love a good tease...
I also have a thing for dirty sweary words!  So it was no surprise that a sticker on the bus this morning with the url howdidthatfatcuntdothat.com caught my eye. Still no iPhone - so I couldn’t get a shot of it - but wanted to share the link with you anyway as I did love the fact that a good old fashioned sticker campaign can work wonders. Check it out - it’s lots of fun.    Loving...

Where the f**k do ideas come from?  A classic from Zefrank in 2006.  This makes me feel better about all the bad ideas I have on a daily basis.

Ever wondered why you leave it to the last minute?
Whilst never being a particularly great manager of my own time I very rarely fail to get things done in the time I have to do them.  I live for the buzz of that last minute adrenaline that pushes me to achieve in an hour what would have taken 3 in more calm times.  I guess that is why i ended up in a job where you are always juggling the most urgent thing and therefore getting that adrenaline hot...

Advertising to kids
On Saturday morning I found myself memorised by TV.  Not by a movie, or a great drama, or even a passionate footie match.  No - typically for me, I became memorised by the ads.  More specifically, I was completely blown away by how blatantly bad the advertising to kids was.  Or maybe they had successfully brainwashed me by the pink plastic? The main culprit that really got me was that well known...

The accidental viral
I like the fact that in my job now we have to try harder to win the attention of people out there to notice our brands. Its made the things we do much more interesting than just plain old selling. One way of doing that is to actually create something of value or interest for people to actually get involved with. It’s this kind of content creation that I like the best. And I love it when you see a...

The tribe of social media
This week I have been lucky enough to get a bit of time to think about being social in more ways than one. I managed to get out of work at a decent time to go and appreciate Australia a bit more… By enjoying Hugh Jackman’s abs in Wolverine and endulging in $2 steaks at one of my local pubs with some good friends. However, as tasty as both those were, the other side of social that has really got...

Stakernomics
Stakernomics. A brand new spanking term that being banded about in adland just now in relation to everyone’s favourite new toy Twitter. (It doesn’t even have a wikipedia entry yet). Sounds kindy creepy weird, but what is it all about? Stakernomics: “The process of be-friending or “following” someone on a social network for commercial gain based on product, category or brand mention.” I am not...

A shiny new blog
Having been a little more inspired recently to be more disiplined about getting my thoughts about life off the scraps of paper in the bottom of various bags I was recommended to start a tumblr blog.  It’s still shiny and new just now - so need a little bit of mess and chaos to bring it in line with the rest of my life.  There will probably be a bit of intense posting whilst I bring it...

me
I am a typically feisty and passionate Scot. Living and working in Sydney now via some time in Glasgow and London. I am a curious and interested person, I am always doing 16 things at once and thinking about at least 10 more I should be doing. I love reading about what everyone else thinks – but thought it was about time I found my voice and talked about the stuff that I like… • I like people....
